Welcome to this, the John Taylor MAT website devoted exclusively to our love of reading, and to support our communities with World Book Day. For 2021, the event will inevitably look and feel different to that hosted across our schools in previous years. Nevertheless, our schools have shown a determination to celebrate the joys of reading, to do so collaboratively, and to do so creatively – very much in the spirit of the JTMAT DNA. They have my utmost admiration for the work they have put in, above and beyond the demands of our daily provision, to make this happen.
What you will find on this site are activities, ideas, and some of the work and competition entries produced by children of all ages who attend JTMAT schools. World Book Day cannot happen without the support of them and their parents in making it a special occasion.
In a world with so many other forms of entertainment, and with so many other media to inform us, it is important that we continue to reinforce the brilliance of books. We may not follow Roald Dahl’s plea literally: “So please, oh please, we beg, we pray, go throw your TV set away, and in its place you can install a lovely bookshelf on the wall.”, but for one day at least it would be great to imagine TVs, and smartphones, being off – and books being open!
Enjoy!
